1. itacho sushi.

recommended by a friend, decided to have japanese food for dinner. we arrived early but the restaurant is already quite full, can’t imagine the long queue during actual dinner time…

we ordered lots of different food, some of them is on discount too, great for us. there’s cha soba with seasoned scallop, salmon belly with black pepper, tamago, spicy salmon sakura shrimp inari with ebiko, salmon lobster salad roll, curry lobster with tobiko sushi, fuji set, roasted squid leg sushi and whole sea eel sushi.

all the sushi is good, fresh and also yummy and i like the cha soba a lot too, the scallops are good. it was a really satisfying meal and the service was okay and the price is reasonable.

  2. sushi zanmai @ the gardens.

it’s been quite a while since our last visit, mainly due to the long queue all day outside the restaurant. this time we arrived quite early for dinner on new year’s day and queued for a while… the inside section changed since my last visit, looks much better now.

the menu is still offering the same variety, really wanna try all sorts of stuff after so long… in the end, these are all we ended up with - ikura chawanmushi, unatama don, hotate mentaiyaki, salmon mentai, nabe with calms, salmon crispy roll and summer roll.

the food taste awesome as usual, we enjoyed it a lot. the service is quite okay as well. and i noticed something interesting while i was looking at the photos… this is the second time we had japanese food on new year day, the first was last year. really coincidence! XD

  3. pasta zanmai, mid valley.

where i feel like having japanese but wants something different, this is where i go. fusion dishes between japanese and italian. and i like that the crowd here is not as crazy as sushi zanmai, if you go early, you don’t even need to queue.

we like to order the mini pasta set, there’s 2 dishes in smaller size for each set, this way, we get to try more things. =) i ordered pasta and pizza set and EdeNz ordered pasta with maki set.

my set has a mini pasta with teriyaki chicken and onsen tamago and hotate & shitake pizza. the pasta is really nice with the smooth half boiled egg, chicken slices are very soft and has a strong teriyaki taste. pizza is really crispy with lots of mushrooms on it and there’s scallops on each slice topped with mayonnaise.

EdeNz’s pasta is in a hot pot, cooked with various vegetables in miso soup, with tempura. the taste of the soup is really sweet, goes really well with tempura. the salad roll has lots of crunchy vegetables, makes the texture nice and very refreshing.

we also ordered salmon temaki, since both of us really like salmon. the hand roll taste good with the special mayonnaise.

we definitely enjoyed our meal, very satisfying. the service here is not too bad even when it’s full house, but sometimes you do need to wait awhile. it’s definitely worth a try though, it’s something different.

  4. kiku zakura japanese restaurant, mid valley.

another visit for awesome japanese dining experience, this time we brought along a friend. both of us really love this place and just wanna share good restaurants with more people. =)

start with temaki, each of us ordered a different one, the ingredients is very fresh and there are lots of it, basically the whole roll. it’s very nice and refreshing.

i ordered another bento variety (can’t remember the name), this one comes with unagi sushi and fried oysters together with tempura and sashimi, and the standard stuff like soup, salad and fruits. the bento is good, the fried oyster is actually quite special, i like it. just that the portion is a little big, i was really really full by the time i finish it which also took awhile.

EdeNz ordered the daily special - soba with rainbow roll, comes with tempura, salad and fruits. the portion is pretty big as well and it tastes good. the rainbow roll is really pretty with all the different ingredients combined and taste good. =) worth a try.

it’s really a nice restaurant with good service, they even provide hot towels before the meal and appetizers (its different everyday!). the restaurant is pretty comfortable and the price is not too pricey for good quality food!

  5. shabu shi.

this restaurant serves shabu shabu and sushi buffet, we went and try out the place… lots of people and the restaurant are not that big, so we gotta wait for quite a while.

although it’s a quite new restaurant, the hygenine is kinda bad and the place is quite messy, doesn’t look new and it kills my mood. we ordered tomyam and porridge soup for the shabu shabu.

while waiting, we though of trying some sushi first… but the choices are very limited and the sushi bar is always empty. anyway, we tried a piece and decided it was really bad, not gonna take more.

the shabu shabu line has mostly frozen food, normally stuff that you get from any steamboat place. we ordered lots of pork slices though, that’s the only thing good around… and the soup isn’t that good as well.

i hate that they only has sweet drinks and soft drinks around, no tea or water. i don’t like drinks that are sweet and definitely no soft drinks when eating steamboat.

overall experience is bad and i don’t think i would visit again. luckily we got a discounted price via groupon, else it’ll be a waste of money since it’s kinda pricey as well.

  6. skipjack’s.

another awesome seafood restaurant, this one is near my office. went there for lunch with bosses, heh… nice environment and it is really crowded during lunch time.

they have sushi menu so i ordered two rolls, lobster and another assorted fish roll which has tuna, salmon roe, etc… the portion is again bigger than what we have in malaysia. the seafood is fresh and the sushi rolls are nice though. very simple, healthy and refreshing food. =D
